Pillory: a wooden framework erected on a post, with holes for securing the head and hands, formerly used to expose an offender to public derision.
In a sentence: The pillory could still be effective today. It is often public sentiment that helps maintain our morality.

Jersey Campbell's Quote of the Day: join me in the land of chimeras
Ladies and not-so-gentlemen, we've got another edition of Quote of the Day for ya. This entry comes to us from a familiar source, Jean-Jacques Rousseau's educational treatise Emile.
This quote was chosen because when I find myself enjoying conversation, people tell me that my views are crazy, incoherent, and just plain impossible. Well my dear friends, I may be insane, but do not think I have no understanding of the world and how it works, for I do. I just choose to ignore them, or dream of a different elemental structure purer and more benevolent in its organization. Rousseau's quote adequately sums up this predicament.

“Long ago they have made up their minds that I am wandering
in the land of chimeras, while for my part I think they are dwelling in the
country of prejudice. When I wander so far from popular beliefs I do not cease
to bear them in mind; I examine them, I consider them, not that I may follow
them or shun them, but that I may weigh them in the balance of reason.”

Jersey Campbell's Vocabulary Word of the Day: Recalcitrant
Good day to you. We've got another Vocabulary Word of the Day for you to soak into your brain thingy.
As you can see, the Wannabe Writers of VW are all on vacation right now, including me. We do have lives outside of bringing incomparable joy to our five readers. Jeez. Read... and expand your vocabulary.
Recalcitrant: resisting authority or control; not obedient or compliant; refractory
hard to deal with, manage, or operate
Example: JC was a recalcitrant little bugger in adolescence; his parents often had to slap him up due to his unruly nature and rude attitude. Ain't shit change.

Jersey Campbell's Vocabulary Word of the Day: Garland
Vicarious World would like to introduce you to Jersey Campbell's Vocabulary Word of the Day. In the ongoing effort to limit the amount of words Mr. Campbell can use in one post, he has created another ruse. We don't mind. Nobody has enough time in the day to read his 10,000 word feature pieces. Read... and be educated.
Somebody told me that here at VW we're all about educating and enlightening the people. So I said to myself, "what better way to educate the people then by expanding their vocabulary?" Thus, the Vocabulary Word of the Day was born. As with all my other "...of the Day" posts, these will not come every day, but it makes the title sound cool, nah mean? Let's get the goin'.

Garland: wealth or festoon of flowers, leaves or other
material, worn for ornament or as an honor or hung on something as decoration.
In a
sentence:
When I’ll
Have Another fulfilled his animal slave duties and won the 2012 Kentucky Derby,
he was presented with a garland of roses, which we all know a horse could give two
shits about.

Jersey Campbell's Quote of the Day: ordah in dah court!
'Sup y'all. There's another edition of Quote of the Day ready to be mentally digested and pooped out. Actually, don't poop it out, keep it in your mind. Thoughts and ideas can never be fully digested, you'll hurt yourself if you try to poop it out.
Today's QotD comes to us from The Republic by ancient Greek philosopher Plato*. Let's disregard the fact that these men had sexual relations with little boys and recognize their maxims for what they represent and what they reveal about the world.
So digest this snippet of a wholly thought-provoking text. Think about what it means, and see the prominent truth.
"For is it not a strikingly disgraceful sign of a bad education if one has to seek justice at the hands of others as one's masters and judges because one lacks it in oneself?"
*While Plato wrote The Republic, it is written in a dialectic format between various characters, the main one being Socrates, who Plato studied from. Whether you love political philosophy or not, this book is a must read.

check check check it out
A HUGE friend of Vicarious World (and soon to be contributor) has a couple of blogs we thought you would find interesting. He describes himself as a rebel, with a cause of course. Looks like Jersey Campbell has found a new friend. He writes about social/political/economical issues (and even proposes solutions!), as well as poetry that can make even the most uptight women swoon. Trust us, we don't recommend that which doesn't deserve recommending.
Check out his blogs:

The lack of national, governmental, and personal investment in the autonomous development/ transformation of the individual; the three eschleons of investment- Pt 1 by GloBaL MiNd
The wannabe writer formally known as Lebron Hawk-Ali has legally changed his name, a la Metta World Peace, Chad Ochocinco, and the original, World B. Free. The shifting moniker has no bearing on GlaBaL MiNd's content, as he will continue to spit that same hot fire as when he was known as Mr. Hawk-Ali. GloBal MiNd will be contributing to the Team of Wannabe Writers here and there, and we look forward to reading on his forays into metaphysical actuality. Read... and be merry.
Intro: The transformation of the
individual may be realized in a multitude of manifestations both celebrated and
subtle. This very transformation is quantified, analyzed, and detailed by
various professionals all from alternative perspectives. No human on this Earth
will personify perfection. All humans have "deficiencies" and or
deficiencies; nonetheless as time goes on we are all striving to improve our
weaknesses in an effort to strengthen the core of our essence. The objective of
any nation, governmental body, and individual should be to provide for the autonomous
procedural development of essential components to the individual!
What is the procedural development of the individual?

Jersey Campbell's notebook ramblings: Mr. Campbell is just fine
I want to get my doctorate degree just so I can tell people not to call me "Dr. Campbell." It troubles me when those of us with doctorate degrees get irked over someone calling them Mr. or Ms. instead of Dr. I'm guessing those people went to school so they can walk around, chests out, correcting people when not addressed by the prestigious title of Doctor. Some (read: most) people have a little too much of the Chris Paul don't-touch-the-back-of-my-head-like-I'm-your-son-bitch mentality. Lighten up.
You know how much you're worth and how much knowledge you possess, yet you still worry over trivial shit. I guess after years of school you want people to know what you've been through or something, but cut that shit out. I'd rather not deal with that high-minded nonsense. When people need others to validate their accomplishments and honors it makes it less honorable. If you got your doctorate, much respect. But don't expect me to call you Doctor unless you work in patient care.
