**Vicarious World's Best of the Month**: the April Edition

Good evening brothers and sisters, we've got another edition of the Best of the Month for ya. Some big things went down this month (as it does every month). Jersey Campbell's boy Mitt Romney basically wraped up the GOP nomination, Kobe Bryant did an un-Kobe like thing, US soldiers in Afghanistan defile the remains of suicide bombers, and somehow the Earth still spins on its axis. Crazy right? So long as the Earth spins VW's team of Wannabe Writers will continue to deliver must-read material. This month features some dandies from the team: KV Sart is on an Edgar Allen Poe-esque run, NYC Rob continues his run of totally gay shit, and the Artist Formally Known As Lebron Hawk-Ali returns. Read... and be merry.

Pillow Top Mattress by KV Sart

We take
            The back roads home
            Passing drunks and mailboxes

We fill
            Lungs and car with smoke
            Breathing fire breath

We bend
Our spines
In carnal ecstasies
Discarding denim and black linens

We lay
            Prostrate
Under the cover of darkness

Exposed and sheltered

Protected and vulnerable

The Girl He Never Had Pt. 2 (Ride Home) by NYC Robert

The Girl He Never Had Pt. 1

While on the train Steven was ecstatic about the outing. He wondered if Aliyah felt the same; and although he didn’t know, she had. Steven thought to himself about the conversations they had, and also about her figure. Steven was beginning to catch feelings for her both emotionally and physically.
Though the night had seemed as if it were over, Steven had no idea what was to come on the train ride home.

Constellations by KV Sart

The stars were a blanket
Stretching over the beach
We stumbled over rocks
Heading for a house on stilts

Underneath the house
We sat together
The wind blew cold
So she pulled my arm close

“Cuddle with me”
She said with a grin
And I looked in her eyes
And kissed her grin

We sat and drank
Talking about something
She turned and said
“Let’s go on the deck”

As we climbed the stairs
The abandoned house was dark
But as we crossed the deck
Lights, motion sensed

We sat in the chairs
On a porch that was not ours
Staring up at the stars
Trying to find the constellations

Jersey Campbell's notebook ramblings: THE Vicarious World

It has come to my attention that people believe that my twisted, convoluted views are a reflection of VW’s views. That is not the case. As the self-appointed editor-in-chief of Vicarious World, I am in a position to state what this blog is about, and what our vision is for the future.

Ride Life by KV Sart

A family sits down to a three-course meal.
            The father complains about the finances,
            The mother complains about work,
            The children complain about the food;
And in the next room,
The plasma screen television displays images
Of civil war on the Ivory Coast.

A lovesick boy cries to his friend,
            Of the one who has left him,
            Of her callousness and cruelty,
            Of her unforgivable arrogance;
And the friend to which he speaks,
Has just taken out a restraining order,
On her physically abusive ex-boyfriend.

Three friends sit in a car outside a house waiting for pharmaceuticals.
            The driver writhes and scratches with impatience,
            The passenger plays games on his smart phone,
            The backseat rider lies lengthwise across the seats,
And inside the house a father of five sleeps;
A DUI on his record,
And ten years of sobriety to the date.

The driver turns his head,
And to the backseat he speaks,
“Chris, you just need to grab the reigns and ride life”;
            And he in the backseat is reminded,
            Of a poem he once read:

            Razors pain you;
            Rivers are damp;
            Acids stain you;
            And drugs cause cramps;
            Guns aren’t lawful;
            Nooses give;
            Gas smells awful;
            You might as well live.*

Our Weekend Together by NYC Robert

My weekend with you was more than special. Truthfully, I don’t think there is a word that can sum up how I felt.  It was a weekend of gentle, passionate, romantic, and kind innocence. To me, what we shared was what couples have been trying to find for years. Although it is the beginning for us I feel like every conversation with you feels like the beginning, and sometimes we talk about the same thing.

I’m learning more and more about you so quickly, but in a good way. To explain, I know what you like, and what you don’t, but those are just parts that come so natural for me because I feel like I can read your mind sometimes. Almost like I know your next thought and what you are thinking. Like if you’re sad I can feel it, if you’re happy I know it, if you want me near you I sense it, and if you’re just being you, I dig it.

Neither of us wanted the weekend to end. Now I’m miles away, but also a call away. Though the pavement separates us it will bring out the best in us.

The lack of national, governmental, and personal investment in the autonomous development/ transformation of the individual; the three eschleons of investment- Pt 1 by GloBaL MiNd

The wannabe writer formally known as Lebron Hawk-Ali has legally changed his name, a la Metta World Peace, Chad Ochocinco, and the original, World B. Free. The shifting moniker has no bearing on GlaBaL MiNd's content, as he will continue to spit that same hot fire as when he was known as Mr. Hawk-Ali. GloBal MiNd will be contributing to the Team of Wannabe Writers here and there, and we look forward to reading on his forays into metaphysical actuality. Read... and be merry.

Intro: The transformation of the individual may be realized in a multitude of manifestations both celebrated and subtle. This very transformation is quantified, analyzed, and detailed by various professionals all from alternative perspectives. No human on this Earth will personify perfection. All humans have "deficiencies" and or deficiencies; nonetheless as time goes on we are all striving to improve our weaknesses in an effort to strengthen the core of our essence. The objective of any nation, governmental body, and individual should be to provide for the autonomous procedural development of essential components to the individual!

What is the procedural development of the individual?

Jersey Campbell's Passage of the Day: Rousseau's Inception

Hello brothers and sisters. Today's Passage of the Day is a quote inside a quote, inside a quote- inside a quote (inside a quote)- inside a quote. My boy Rousseau never fails to come through. I remember back in the day when we use to sit in our over-sized armchairs, spliff one up, and talk about the denigration of society... good times. You'll always be one of my best friends Jean-Jacques.

On a serious note, today's Passage of the Day is about the inherent inhumanity in eating our fellow creatures of this planet. I need not say more, Plutarch does this is argument more justice then I do. Plus, I use these gimmicks when I'm not in the mood to publish my nonsense to the world, or Vicarious World's five fans.

Play Sound Boy Play: World Clash NY 2012 Wrap-up by Jersey Campbell

           It’s the day after World Clash New York 2012, and I still smell as if I bathed in a spring of ganja… for a week. I will try to give you a rundown of the night’s proceedings as only a layman can. While I have Jamaican origins, my knowledge of the culture and history of my parents’ homeland is rather incomplete. Sound clashing has its origins in the island of Jamaica, and can be described as DJs battling one another for crowd supremacy. But before we get to the sounds and their performances, let’s talk about the atmosphere at the venue, Amazura of Queens, NY.

*Vicarious World's Bracket Challenge*: Joose's Victory Speech

The Winner's Cup

As we all know by now, Joose, a friend of Vicarious World, has won the inaugural VW March Madness Bracket Challenge. He bested the field of seven with nothing but luck and a couple of hunches. Don't expect a repeat next year.

"Good afternoon gentleman and ladies. It has been a great honor participating in VW's March Madness Bracket Challenge with you. The past few weeks have been very fun and exciting but in the end there can only be one winner. Thanks and good luck next year."

- Joose

Wasted Time by KV Sart

The time we waist
We place into cans and bottles
And we cap those bottles
With the corks from $9 wines
We split our thoughts
We divert our attention
Sometimes purposely
Sometimes not

We seek to build
Trying to fill the void
Left by society’s fetters
Attaching ourselves to the absence of fear
We cry with the world
We cry by ourselves
Sometimes empathizing
Sometimes sympathizing

The broken branches of evergreen trees
Sit pleasantly next to
Empty cans and bottles
The world is perfectly marred
We destroy each other
We break each other’s will
Sometimes in the name of God
Sometimes in the name of Nihilism

The smartest man I know
Doesn’t go anywhere
Says everything and nothing
Saying everything by saying nothing
We chastise him
We taunt his absence of manliness
Sometimes fairly
Sometimes to our own detriment
